Dino Melaye, pulled off one of the most unlikely electoral coups of modern times on Sunday, toppling the political and media establishment to win the Senate seat representing Kogi West.
Melaye, who is flying the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated his close rival, Smart Adeyemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He polled a total of 85, 395 votes to defeat his APC opponent Smart Adeyemi who scored 66, 902 votes.
Adeyemi, a former senator had the support of governor Yahaya Bello and big establishment figures.
Reacting on Monday morning, as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declares him winner of Saturday’s election. He wrote on Twitter: “To God alone be the glory forever and ever. Amen. I have just been declared winner of the Kogi West Senatorial District Election.“God only You would have done this. Kogi West I thank you all. I love you all. What a mighty God we serve.”
Kogi West Senatorial District which comprises seven LGAs namely Lokoja, Kogi/Koton Karfe, Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu, Yagba East, Yagba West saw Dino winning 6 LGA’s out of 7.
